Weekly Update for Sept. 11-15, 2017

What a wonderful first week of school!  There will be a lot going on the next few months:

Parents: Please see the attached 2017/18 School Fees Letter with pertinent information on this year’s fees

Cougar Cross Country Running Open to Grades 1-6

  • Starts on Monday, September 11
  • Grades 1-3 will train in the gym when smoky or outside if not, at first recess of the day every day
  • Grades 4-6 will train in the gym when smoky or outside if not, at lunch recess every day
  • Need proper running shoes and a water bottle
  • Meets:

September 28/17 – at Lloyd Park (past Red Deer Lake School) after school (exact times to follow)

October 5/17- Good Shepherd Cross Country meet (in Okotoks, location and exact times to follow)

Please note, we will take the runners to the meets on the bus but you must arrange to pick them up after their race at the race location. Why? Each grade runs at a separate time and they all finish at a separate time.

  • Note: the meets will run smoky or not – if your child suffers in the smoky conditions, perhaps he/she should give X-Country a pass this year as we don’t want any harm coming to our athletes
  • Cost is $20 to cover bussing and entry fees
  • Please fill out the attached permission form and medical form and return to the school with payment on Monday
  • Coaches – Mrs. Burrows and Miss Desrochers

Cougar Flag Football

  • Starts on Monday, September 11 with the first game being on Thursday, September 14 here at C. Ian McLaren School versus Turner Valley
  • We only have the first week’s schedule – a detailed practice and game schedule will be handed out at Monday’s practice
  • Practices next week – Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, September 12 at 3:30-4:30 on the school field if conditions are good or in the gym if smoky
  • Need proper running shoes and a water bottle and athletic clothing that you can move in
  • Final Tournament is set on Thursday, October 19 at Foothills Composite High School
  • Note: the games will run smoky or not – if your child suffers in the smoky conditions, perhaps he/she should give flag football a pass this year as we don’t want any harm coming to our athletes
  • Cost is $33 to cover bussing and entry fees
  • Bus runs there and back both ways
  • Please fill out the attached medical and permission forms and return to the school with payment on Monday

Cougar Tripleball/Volleyball 

  • Season begins October 23 with the first practice in the gym after school 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Forms and details will be emailed in the update the week prior

Monday, Sept. 11

  • Parent Council Meeting 6:30 pm in the Learnings Common. Presentation by Mrs. Sherisse Dawe. She will be sharing reading strategies. All parents are invited to attend and free babysitting is provided for those that require it.
  • Cross Country Running begins. Be sure to get your permission form/medical info form and $20 cash/cheque payment to the office today! See info above and forms attached.
  • Flag Football begins. Practice at 3:30-4:30 in school field (gymnasium if smoky outside) Be sure to get your permission form/medical info form and $33 cash/cheque to the office today! See info above and forms attached. Assistant Coaches needed. Contact Mrs. Burrows at burrowss@fsd38.ab.ca if you are able to help out.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

  • Flag Football practice 3:30-4:30 in school field (gymnasium if smoky outside)

Wednesday, Sept. 13

Thursday, Sept. 14

  • Open House/Meet the Teacher night. 3:30 to 7:00 pm. If you haven’t registered for a time slot, please log in and do so. New parents please sign up as a new user.
